History
Early years
The club was formed in 1946 and established itself in the Salvadoran football system. By 1977, they had achieved their first victory in the Primera División, winning 3-2, marking an important milestone in the club's development.
Successful period
Independiente experienced their most successful period in the early 1980s, reaching the Primera División finals as runners-up in both 1981 and 1982. During the 1982 season, they scored 55 goals, which remains their record for most goals in a Primera División season, with Óscar Gustavo "Lotario" Guerrero contributing 19 goals that year.
Crisis and recovery
After competing in the Tercera División, in January 2016, the club decided to purchase an invitation to return to the Segunda División. They achieved immediate success by winning the 2016 Apertura tournament, defeating Turin F.C. and earning promotion to the Major League. They reached the final again in the 2017 Clausura but fell to Audaz in both the final series and the first defining match.
In 2019, for the Clausura Tournament, the club's leadership acquired the franchise of Audaz, which could not continue in the first division due to economic problems and debts. However, at the end of the 2020 season, Pablo Herrera, the franchise license owner, announced that Independiente would lose their license, which would be given to Luis Angel Firpo for the Clausura 2020.
Current period
Following a four-year absence from competitive football, Independiente FC made their return by purchasing Estrella Roja in June 2024, preparing to compete in the Tercera División for the 2024-2025 season.
