Vardar
FK Vardar is a professional football club based in Skopje, North Macedonia, founded in 1947 through the merger of FK Pobeda and FK Makedonija. The club competes in the Macedonian First League and plays their home matches at the City Park Arena (also known as Toshe Proeski Arena) with a capacity of 33,011 spectators. They are the most successful football club in Macedonia, having won eleven Macedonian First League titles, six Macedonian Cups, two Macedonian Super Cups and one Yugoslav Cup. General information about the club
FK Vardar was established on 22 July 1947 through the merger of city rivals FK Pobeda (1919) and FK Makedonija (1922) in the hall of cinema "Vardar". The fusion assembly initially decided the club's colors would be blue, but this was changed at the next assembly to red and white. The present recognizable red and black color jerseys were adopted after the 1963 Skopje earthquake when the famous Milan football club sent equipment for the Skopje team.

FK Vardar has won a total of 17 major honors throughout their history. In 2012, the club underwent a transformation and became the first team in North Macedonia organized as a joint stock company incorporated under the Companies Act. History
Early years
The club's origins trace back to 1911 when Sports Club Vardar was formed. It was registered in early 1912 and competed until the war break (1914-18). In 1919, Vardar started competing again in the Skopje division, winning two championships in the early 1920s (1922 and 1923). In 1924, Vardar merged into Gragjanski, but was re-established in 1926 by former players. During World War II in 1941, Vardar merged with other clubs to form FK Makedonia.
Successful period
The club won its first major trophy in the 1960–61 Yugoslav Cup. Many famous players from the region started their careers at Vardar, with Andon Dončevski leading that generation of players. The club spent 33 seasons in the Federal top flight from 1947 to 1992 and is ranked 11th on the all-time table. In the controversial 1986-87 season, Vardar was recognized as champion by UEFA, with the team including captain Darko Pančev, Ilija Najdoski, Dragi Kanatlarovski and Vujadin Stanojković.
Crisis and recovery
After Macedonia's independence, Vardar celebrated by winning three consecutive titles, including going unbeaten in the inaugural season. During the 1990s, they remained at the top of Macedonian football, reaching five Macedonian Cup finals and winning four. After a lean spell, they won the league again in 2001–02. In 2011, Vardar was originally relegated from the Macedonian First Football League but stayed after buying the license from Miravci.
Current period
In the 2017–18 season, Vardar made history by becoming the first Macedonian club to qualify for the group stage of a European competition. They defeated Malmö FF and F.C. Copenhagen in Champions League qualifying before being eliminated. However, they continued in the Europa League play-off round, where they surprisingly defeated Turkish giants Fenerbahçe to reach the group stage, where they were drawn against Zenit Saint Petersburg, Rosenborg and Real Sociedad.

Eternal Derby
The fixture between Vardar and FK Pelister is the biggest and most violent match in North Macedonia. The rivalry began in the 1989–90 season and intensified after an incident on 8 March 1991 in Bitola. This rivalry involves the supporter clubs Komiti Skopje and Čkembari, making the Vardar–Pelister match the eternal derby.
Skopje derby

Traditions and culture
FK Vardar supporters are known as "Komiti", who were founded on 4 June 1987 in Skopje at the match between FK Vardar and Red Star Belgrade. The name "Komiti" was chosen to honor the Macedonian revolutionaries organized under IMRO in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who were called komitadjis. The team has always been a symbol of the Macedonians, including those in the diaspora. Komiti have good relations with FK Teteks fans "Vojvodi" and FC Schalke 04 fans "Ultras Gelsenkirchen".
