Early years

Successful period
The club's most successful period began in 2003 when they won promotion to the National First Division after being crowned champions of the Vodacom Second Division. In their first season of first division football, they finished 5th. After a successful 2005/2006 season, Vasco featured in the promotion playoffs, beating Bush Bucks in the semi-final before losing 1-0 in the playoff finals to Benoni Premier United, which included Bafana Bafana players Bernard Parker and Tsepo Masilela. In 2008, they won the Vodacom League and regained promotion to the National First Division. The pinnacle came in 2010 when Vasco secured promotion to the Premiership after beating Black Leopards 2-1 (aggregate score 3-2) in a promotional play-off at Parow Park on 7 March 2010.
Crisis and recovery
After only one season in the Premiership, Vasco was relegated, finishing 15th and losing the promotion/relegation playoffs. The club continued to compete in the National First Division until 2016. On 9 January 2014, they played a friendly match against German Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart at Coetzenberg Stadium in Stellenbosch, losing 5-0 with goals from Mohammed Abdellaoue, Cacau, Martin Harnik and Vedad Ibišević.
Current period
In August 2016, owner Mario Ferreira used the license of Vasco da Gama to create a new club in Stellenbosch, known as Stellenbosch F.C. This effectively ended the club's participation in professional football for several years. However, in June 2024, the club earned promotion back to competitive football in the SAFA Second Division.
